New Vegetables on the Horizon
I wandered through the produce department last night looking for unusual veggies for Luke to try. By "unusual" I mean veggies that are good for you that no one in my home will eat. He's already tasted all of the normal vegetables, like green beans and sweet potatoes. I ended up with gold beets, parsnips and lacinato kale. We'll see what he thinks. So into the kitchen I go to start steaming, roasting and pureeing. I'm also replenishing our supply of carrots, sweet potatoes, and applesauce. I love the smell of the kitchen on baby food days. So many earthy smells all blending together and the satisfaction of several batches of food prepped is quite gratifying. Off to the kitchen!
Beets, Bears, Battlestar GalacticaBeets were a huge hit in our house today. My official baby food tester, Adelaide, smiled in approval when she tasted the first batch. Luke ate an entire bowl, grabbing for more the whole time. Even Bella agreed to try a bite of diced, steamed golden beet and agreed that they were quite yummy. Dwight would be proud.
The parsnips just came out of the oven. They smell delicious. I never would have guessed they were so fragrant. Even as I was peeling them, the fragrance was very apparent. Bella decided they smelled like flowers. (And said she just might taste one. Maybe these veggies won't be so "unusual" in our home after all.) Luke will get to try them on Friday.
